It belongs to the sparid family, which includes 38 different genera, characterized by an oval body with flattened sides and a large head. Its scales, large with golden reflections depending on the species, contribute to its distinctive appearance. The sea bream, with its silvery, slightly bluish scales and a golden spot on the head, is celebrated for its lean, fragrant white flesh that can be prepared in numerous ways.
Health Benefits of Sea Bream:
- Nutritional Value: Sea bream is rich in proteins, particularly in amino acids essential for the body. It contains monounsaturated fatty acids that improve cardiovascular health and polyunsaturated fatty acids that protect the cardiovascular system and are beneficial in treating asthma and arthritis.
- Minerals and Vitamins: It provides a good source of phosphorus, important for tissue growth and regeneration, and is rich in vitamin B12, which helps assimilate iron correctly, preventing anemia. Sea bream also contains trace elements like potassium, iodine, iron, and phosphorus.
- Low Lipid Content: Its low lipid content helps prevent the accumulation of fat cells and overweight, making it an excellent choice for a healthy diet.
Storage and Preparation: Sea bream supports freezing very well. It should be gutted and descaled before being placed in a suitable bag for storage, allowing it to be kept for 3 to 6 months without losing its flavor.
