HORSE MACKEREL (THOMSON FISH)
Horse Mackerel (Thomson Fish), also known as “saurel,” “caringue,” or Thomson Fish, is a species within the jack family, notable for its bluish-gray body with white silvery flanks, a slightly prominent jaw, and a thorny lateral line of thin spines. This fish inhabits a vast territory in the Atlantic, ranging from the Norwegian coast to South Africa, and migrates through the Black Sea, the Sea of Marmara, and the Mediterranean. Its slender and fusiform body resembles that of the mackerel, with a very thin caudal peduncle.
