Selecto Soda
The Selecto soda is a distinctive beverage from the brand Hamoud Boualem, featuring a unique apple essence, or more specifically, isoamyl acetate (banana flavouring). This soda enjoys immense popularity in Algeria and stands as the most consumed drink of the brand alongside Hamoud, significantly contributing to its fame.
Originally named Victoria and created in 1873 in Algeria, the drink was rebranded as Selecto soda by Hamoud Boualem to reflect the selective choice of ingredients used in its formulation.
Despite its radically different taste, Selecto soda is often compared to an Algerian “Coca-Cola”.
The beverage’s success in Algeria has led to its exportation to France, the United Kingdom, and Canada, making it one of the few products by Hamoud Boualem to reach international markets. In France, unique variants not available in Algeria, such as Selecto apple and Selecto lemon, have been introduced. The French production of Selecto is managed by an Algerian company, Parot.
