Crab
Crab is one of the most popular seafood products among tourists. On the coasts, you will have even more chance to find fresh ones. This type of seafood can be prepared differently depending on your choice. In this Malagasy recipe, they will be accompanied by coconut milk, another product that is very popular in Madagascar.
Crab accompanied by coconut milk prepared in the “Malagasy” way
Recipe: for 4 people

Ingredients:
- 1 liter of coconut milk
1 kg of crabs (fresh or frozen)
Half a spoonful of turmeric…
3 tomatoes
2 to 3 onions
3 to 4 stalks of chives
5 cloves of garlic
1 piece of ginger
Preparation of the recipe for Madagascar coconut milk crabs
If you’ve taken thawed crabs, let them thaw.
First, you must break the shells and claws of the crabs with a meat hammer, tongs or nutcracker. This way, the sauce will easily soak into the meat and give the crabs an even more flavourful taste. With the shells and claws slightly broken, you can also easily enjoy the dish.
Start preparing the ingredients for the sauce by slicing the onions, chopping the chives, dicing the tomatoes into small cubes and grating the ginger and garlic cloves. Then put a little oil in a pot, previously heated over low heat, to scorch the ginger and grated garlic with the onions. Once the onions are golden brown, put the tomatoes, half of the spring onions and the turmeric into the pot.
Let it cook for ten minutes on low heat and then pour in the coconut milk while stirring until you obtain a smooth and homogeneous sauce.
Then put the crabs in the sauce and cook for about ten minutes. Then, turn them over to the opposite side so that the cooking takes full effect on the crabs.
This recipe of crabs in coconut milk from Madagascar is to be served hot with white rice. Use the rest of the chives for decoration.
